Religious Education at

North Baddesley Junior School

At NBJS we want to create an environment where children feel comfortable to discuss their own beliefs and opinions, religious or otherwise.

We want to introduce children to what a religious way of looking at the world may offer in leading their life, individually and collectively.

We want children to understand, respect and accept differences in terms of religion and the world generally and celebrate in the fact that we are all unique and live in a diverse world.

At Key Stage 2 pupils are required to study Christianity and two other religions. They can also have a light touch in any other religion.

Year 3 and 4 consider concepts linked with the Christian and Jewish faiths.

Year 5 and 6 continue to develop their understanding of Christianity alongside the study of concepts linked with Islam.

What you need to know…

RE in our school follows Living Difference IV, which is the Agreed Syllabus for Hampshire, Portsmouth, Southampton and the Isle of Wight. It is our legal framework for RE.

Living Difference IV is an educational approach to teaching RE that builds on previous Living Difference Syllabuses (2004, 2011, 2016)

It seeks to introduce children and young people to what a religious way of existing in the world may offer in leading one’s life, individually and collectively.

This entails teachers bringing children and young people first to be attentive to their own experience of particular words and concepts, before studying how those with a religious as well as non-religious orientation on life experience this.
