Today, we stepped back in time with a visit to the Victorian Quay at Morwellham, where we immersed ourselves in the lives of Victorian children. Dressed in period clothing, we travelled deep into the copper mine by train and discovered the harsh realities faced by children who worked long days underground, often earning just 4p a day for breaking rocks. It was a thought-provoking experience that helped bring history to life.

This afternoon, we swapped Victorian industry for the natural beauty of Lydford Gorge. The steep walk down was well worth the effort, as the stunning White Lady Waterfall did not disappoint. One of the highlights of the day came when we spontaneously gathered to sing The River Is Flowing in front of the falls. Hearing our voices echo around the gorge made for a truly memorable moment and one that will no doubt make an appearance in the leavers' film later this year. After the challenge of climbing back up the gorge and completing our evening farm jobs, dinner was very warmly received. There is a wonderful spirit growing within the group, with everyone supporting one another and embracing each new experience with enthusiasm and resilience. As the evening drew to a close, we gathered around the campfire for songs, laughter and toasted marshmallows. It was the perfect way to end another action-packed day. Tired legs, smiling faces and plenty of happy memories were a reminder of all that we had experienced together. As everyone settled down for the night, there was a real sense of achievement, friendship and excitement for the adventures that tomorrow will bring. 🔥✨

Today was one of those days that reminded us just how much children can gain from experiences beyond the classroom. Watching them step back in time at Morwellham and engage so thoughtfully with the realities of Victorian life was a real highlight. Many were genuinely surprised by the hardships faced by children their age and asked insightful questions throughout the visit.

The walk through Lydford Gorge provided a different kind of learning experience. The children showed determination, resilience and teamwork as they tackled the steep paths, and seeing their faces when they reached the White Lady Waterfall made every step worthwhile. A particularly special moment came when they spontaneously began singing The River Is Flowing in front of the falls, creating a memory that we are certain they will cherish long after this week is over.
