Art allows the child to develop their imagination and creativity, through a diverse range of media. They are provided with opportunities to make connections using their inventive minds to create works of art unique to each individual. Our curriculum gives children the skills to express and record their plans and creative ideas. This journey begins with an exploration of a key artist to inspire their thinking before commencing their own experience.
It enables the children to communicate their senses, emotions and thoughts replicating the processes of artists. Children will experiment with their ideas, use of colour, texture, form, pattern and different materials and processes. Self-evaluation of work is encouraged during the art process and a final evaluation is completed at the end of a unit to allow children to reflect on their process. Children are taught how to be resilient, be problem solvers and risk-takers in order to achieve their goals and ensure the creation of unique pieces of art. This is achieved by children having an active role within every aspect of the art learning journey. They are encouraged to reflect on and learn from each step, using and making constructive feedback.
Children have the opportunity to build on previous skills and learning during projects in subsequent years fostering a positive view of art and development of skills.
A range of arts experiences are offered to students including art focus weeks, links to the creative curriculum: history, geography, literacy, RE ensuring a wide exploration of diversity and cultures.
