The Government is providing funding to ensure the development of sport within schools. This is between £8 - £9000 pounds depending on the number of pupil on roll. Schools use the funding to create a long term sustainable sports plan which includes high-quality staff training, support for schools from local Schools Games Officers (our link is based at Mountbatten School) and potentially equipment. All classes at NBJS receive one hour of indoor PE (gymnastics/dance) and one hour of outdoor games. A wide variety of clubs is offered - some chargeable from outside providers - others run by school staff.
Under new proposals linked to the "sugar tax", the funding has doubled from 2017-18 allowing exciting opportunities to make long term investment in projects which will have a long term impact on sport in schools. For NBJS this means around £16k to continue the work on improving the PE/Games offering. By investing in equipment, children for years to come will be able to actively use facilities funded by this grant.
